small scarecrow   Balingup Small Farm Field Day  -  April

The Balingup Small Farm Field Day is the most popular event held in our community, with over 10,000 people enjoying the day on the town oval.  Over 300 stalls, plus information and demonstration booths give everyone an opportunity to learn how to live the 'good life' away from the city.  Guided small farm and "tree-change" tours are conducted for a small extra fee.  Practical demonstrations include a Blacksmith, a Farrier, fence building, and greenwood turning on a pole lathe.  Early in April the town comes alive with the annual scarecrow competition (leading up to the Field Day).
For more information see the Small Farm Field Day site.

small scarecrow Telling Tales In Balingup - July

Telling Tales in Balingup is an exciting new event in Balingup for children. This story telling festival is full of fun and activities for children ranging from around 4 to 12 years of age.
Some of the activities include readings with WA authors and illustrators at different venues, art exhibitions of children's drawings, workshops on how to write and illustrate a book, bookbinding and more.   Children are encouraged to come dressed as a character from their favourite book. Many recognisable characters from well known stories wander the streets of Balingup, including the Pied Piper who leads the children to the different venues around town. Adults can of course accompany the children and enjoy a coffee in the cafés or browse the many interesting retail outlets.

small scarecrow  Festival of Country Gardens -   2010 dates:
Autumn Delights:  Frid 30 April, Sat 1  &Sun 2 May
Prelude:   Friday 8 to Sunday 10 October
Main Festival:   Wed 3 to Sun 7 November

The Festival of Country Gardens is a twice-yearly event taking place in the Blackwood River Valley and Manjimup area over several days in both spring and autumn. The main Festival event is held in November and there is a Preview weekend in October. A smaller Festival, called "Autumn Delights", is held over the first weekend of May.

Each year different themes are chosen and for 2009 the themes are both water wise gardens and fire wise gardens and show how gardens can be productive while still being water wise. The themes are an ongoing part of the Festivals and will be highlighted through the 30 gardens open for viewing and through talks and other activities.
For more information see the Country Gardens site.
